Indexed Universal Life (IUL) Insurance in Florida
Indexed universal life is permanent life insurance with a cash value that can grow based on a market index, while being protected from index losses. Built correctly, an IUL can protect your family and provide a flexible, tax-advantaged source of money later in life. Built poorly, it can become expensive or lapse. Our job is to tell the difference.
How an IUL works
- Death benefit. A tax-free payout to your beneficiaries, under current tax law.
- Cash value. Part of each premium goes into a cash value account that is credited interest based on an index such as the S&P 500.
- Floor and cap. In down years the credited rate is typically 0%, so you don't lose value to the index. In up years, crediting is limited by a cap or participation rate.
- Access. You can take policy loans or withdrawals from the cash value, for example to supplement retirement income.
Who an IUL can fit
- Business owners and professionals who already max out their 401(k) or IRA
- Families who want permanent protection plus long-term cash value
- People planning for estate liquidity or wealth transfer
- Business owners funding key-person or buy-sell agreements
The risks you should understand
We believe an honest IUL conversation starts here:
- Costs. Insurance charges and fees come out of the cash value, and they rise with age.
- Illustrations are not guarantees. Projections assume crediting rates that may not happen. Ask to see how a policy performs at lower rates.
- Underfunding. A policy that isn't funded properly can lapse, and a lapse can create a tax bill.
- Loans. Policy loans accrue interest and reduce the death benefit if not repaid.
- Caps can change. Carriers can adjust caps and participation rates over time.

Policy guarantees are backed by the claims-paying ability of the issuing insurer. Policy loans and withdrawals reduce cash value and death benefit and may cause the policy to lapse. Indexed universal life is not an investment in the stock market. Consult a tax professional about your situation.
